"24 Hours in Marseille: Exploring the Charm of the Mediterranean Gem"


Accommodation: Our cozy retreat was at "PARADISE Earth & Sea," nestled on 32 Rue Paradis, Marseille. At just €94 for one night for two persons, it offered comfort and convenience amidst the bustling city.


Our 24-Hour Adventure:


1. St. Vincent de Paul Church: Our journey began with a visit to the majestic St. Vincent de Paul Church, a stunning example of neoclassical architecture. History Fact: This church, built in the 19th century, stands as a tribute to Marseille's rich religious heritage.



2. Parc Longchamp: We wandered through the lush greenery of Parc Longchamp, admiring its grandiose fountains and serene pathways. This oasis in the heart of the city provided the perfect escape from the urban hustle.



3. Funny Zoo: Nestled within Parc Longchamp, the Funny Zoo delighted us with its whimsical animal sculptures, adding a touch of playfulness to our exploration.

4. Friche la Belle de Mai: Our next stop was Friche la Belle de Mai, a vibrant cultural center housed in a former tobacco factory. Here, we immersed ourselves in Marseille's contemporary art scene, exploring exhibitions and creative spaces.

5. Cathedrale de Major: We marveled at the grandeur of Cathedrale de Major, an architectural masterpiece overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This Roman Catholic cathedral, built in the 19th century, boasts stunning Byzantine-inspired design elements.

6. Vieux Port: We strolled along the historic Vieux Port, Marseille's bustling harbor lined with colorful boats and lively cafes. Here, we soaked in the maritime atmosphere and watched fishermen unload their catch of the day.



7. Our Accommodation: Returning to "PARADISE Earth & Sea," we refreshed ourselves and dropped off our luggage before continuing our exploration.


8. Noailles: We ventured into the vibrant district of Noailles, known for its bustling markets and multicultural vibe. Here, we sampled exotic spices, fresh produce, and local delicacies, immersing ourselves in Marseille's culinary scene.



9. Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde: As the sun began to set, we made our way to Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde, Marseille's iconic hilltop basilica. From this vantage point, we enjoyed panoramic views of the city and the glittering Mediterranean below. Fun Fact: Affectionately known as "La Bonne Mère" (The Good Mother) by locals, this basilica is a symbol of Marseille's resilience and devotion.



10. Plage des Catalans: We ended our day at Plage des Catalans, where we found a perfect spot to admire the sunset over Marseille's skyline. This charming beach offered a peaceful retreat and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.



11. Port du Vallon des Auffes: We explored the picturesque fishing village of Port du Vallon des Auffes, tucked away along Marseille's rocky coastline. Fun Fact: This idyllic harbor has inspired numerous artists and filmmakers with its rustic charm and tranquil atmosphere.

13. Abbaye Saint Victor: We paused to admire Abbaye Saint Victor, Marseille's oldest building dating back to the 5th century. Steeped in history and spirituality, this ancient abbey is a testament to Marseille's enduring legacy.



14. Walking Back to Our Accommodation: As night fell, we retraced our steps back to "PARADISE Earth & Sea," reminiscing about the day's adventures and savoring the magic of Marseille by night.



Next Morning: Departure to Montpellier

15. Bus & Train Station: With memories of Marseille still fresh in our minds, we bid farewell to the city and embarked on our next adventure to Montpellier (more in the next blog).
